Biodata: Dr. S. Sudheer Kumar

Dr. S. Sudheer Kumar, a distinguished academician and researcher, is a retired Senior Professor from Professor Jayashankar Telangana  Agricultural University (PJTAU). With over 36+ years of dedicated service, he held various key roles, including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, Senior Professor, Director of Planning and Monitoring Cell, and Registrar, from which he retired in 2020. Post-retirement, Dr. Kumar joined as a Professor at the School of Agricultural Sciences, Malla Reddy University.

 

Academic Credentials

• Master’s Degree (1985): Genetics & Plant Breeding, HPKKV, Palampur,  H.P.

• Doctorate Degree (1996): Genetics & Plant Breeding, GAU, Gujarat.

 

Research Contributions (1986–1992)

• Played a key role in developing Jagtiala Sannalu (JGL 1798) and Polasa Prabha (JGL 384) rice varieties which are high yielding and resistant to gall midge.

• Developed germplasm collections and screened upland rice varieties.

 

Teaching Contributions (1995–2013)

• Taught undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses in Genetics & Plant Breeding, Seed Science & Technology, and Biometrical Genetics.

• Assisted in revising the syllabus for B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture as part of the Fourth and Fifth Deans’ Committee recommendations.

 

Academic Excellence

• Guided 22 M.Sc. and 8 Ph.D. students as a major advisor in Genetics & Plant Breeding and Seed Technology.

• Published 100+ research papers in national and international journals.

• Authored books and Practical manuals contributing significantly to academic literature.

• Served as a convener, moderator, and regional coordinator for various academic and examination activities.

• Best Teacher Award (ICAR), ANGRAU, 2010.

• State Award for Meritorious Teachers 2014 (Government of Andhra Pradesh).

• Life member of Indian Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Indian Society of Oilseeds Research, Association of Rice Research Workers, Society of Seed Technology, Indian Science Congress, etc.

• President, Genetics and Plant Breeding Hyderabad Chapter since last two years.

 

Administrative Leadership (2014-2023)

As Registrar at PJTAU, Dr. Kumar implemented several innovative initiatives:

• Online question paper generation and evaluation of UG answer scripts.

• Established online academic records for 5000+ students  for the benefit of students and parents.

• Played a key role in ICAR accreditation and ranking achievements (6th–10th ranks from 2016–2019) of the University.

• Spearheaded infrastructure development of the unievrsity like establishment of  new Agriculture colleges (Four),  Agriculture Polytechnic colleges (Four), Krishi Vishwa Vidyalayas (Two) and Research Station. 

• Guided in establishment of Central Instrumentation Cell for the benefit of faculty and PG and Ph.D. students.

• Promoted green initiatives like solar power (established rooftop solar panels (RESCO model) on campus buildings, with a capacity of 717.60 kWp,) with annual savings of ₹60-70 lakhs and water harvesting in university campuses.
